There would be no point;
1. IP address is instantly revealed with a simple icmp echo request. 2. Your dns name will work just as well for a ddos attack C:\> C:\>ping gametracker.com Pinging gametracker.com [104.16.28.9] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 104.16.28.9: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=57 Reply from 104.16.28.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=57 Reply from 104.16.28.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=57 Reply from 104.16.28.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=57 Ping statistics for 104.16.28.9: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 6ms, Maximum = 7ms, Average = 6ms C:\> I am a community user. All domain names are mapped to an IP address, it just requires a simple ping request to get that information.
If someone is capable enough to set up a DDOS attack, they're sure as hell capable of performing a simple ICMP echo request. Functionally, rendering any 'hiding' moot. |
