Don't post things like "I don't like this map because it has too few vehicles" here.
This is meant to be for the technical aspects. I'll try to solve the biggest problems, but I can only work on maps for which I have the permission. However, I will try to contact the author of a map if there's a real big problem. I try to make maps as flexible as possible when it comes to the individual hardware of the players, so turning off some more details in your settings should actually have some effects on the performance. Try this first and report a problem only if that doesn't seem to help much, or if it's in no relation to the performance of other maps. Since I have only one hardware, I can't test the performance of a map on different systems. So if you have the feeling that a map runs much slower than other maps: post it here. Same goes for gameplay glitches and similar things. It would also be interesting to know if there are any problems on Unix- or Mac-systems. Many maps don't have so called "Fallback-materials", which should in case of a rendering error (due to the lack of DirectX or OpenGL or... don't know because of what) draw an alternative texture. This is supposed to be used in shaders, for example. It's probably pretty hard to notice when you don't know how it should really look, but if you have the feeling that for example a watersurface should be translucent, but isn't, then maybe post this here, too. There is also a benchmark tool for UT2004-maps. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me because I seem to have some weird version of the game, but maybe you find this interesting. ![]() But you can't test with 32 players, so this will probably not show how a map would handle on the server for real. EDIT: Very nice Foib... who opened this topic now? ![]() EDIT2: Damn you, you editor! :p ![]()

I have a major problem with one map on the server
Spiffingrad. Every time the map vote selects Spiffingrad-T32-Crusha-Beta2-3-4 my copy of UT crashes. It's an annoyance, but as long as Spiffingrad-Crusha is running on the server every attempt to join the game results in a crash. I know that it isn't just me who has this problem, though it obviously doesn't affect the majority of players. I thought it may be because I have a Mac but I believe there are Windows users who have this problem. I have four versions of Spiffingrad on my Mac, and the original ONS-Spiffingrad works fine (offline), as does ONS-Spiffingrad-T32 and ONS-SpiffingradSE-TSE. However, ONS-SpiffingradSE will crash my copy of UT every time - the same as ONS-Spiffingrad-T32-Crusha-Beta2-3-4. When ONS-Spiffingrad-Crusha gets selected I nip over to the CEONS or SPAM VIKINGS server for a while and then hope there is room for me to get back onto TECHCOM later. I have no idea what the problem is but it would be great if someone could sort it out ... at the very least It would be nice just to know what the problem is. |

Is it only Spiff or are there also other maps that have this problem?
The only strange thing I noticed in Spiff is, that the sandbags are made of 0 triangles, what acutally can't be possible. However, they don't have a collision and I needed to put BlockingVolumes around them. If I assign a custom collision-hull to them, they turn invisible. Strange things that I haven't encountered in any other map I edited so far. If that would only fail on Macs, then it could be because something DX-specific would still allow such things to render well, but if that map also crashes on Windows-PCs, then it might be maybe specific graphic hardware. Do you have more informations, like error-messages (the UT2004.log in your System-directory) and your hardware? If you can tell me a fixed day and time when you will be on the server, then I could modify the map for testing purpose and delete the sandbags. Foibos could force that modified version and you could tell us if it still crashes for you. Just to eliminate the possibility. But I might run short on time this week, so maybe next week? ![]() |
